Vaccine Information
Fecal Egg Counts
We recommend at least a once yearly fecal egg count for each horse. Depending on the horse's shedding further fecal exams may be recommended throughout the year to guide a targeted deworming protocol.
Due to the increase in resistance to dewormers, we strive to only deworm as necessary to preserve the strength of our dewormers.
Bloodwork
- Complete Blood Count assess red cell and white cell numbers indicating infection or disease.
- Chemistry assesses organ function
- Endocrine testing: Cushing's (PPID), Insulin Resistance
- Reproductive hormone tests
- Muscle enzyme screenings
And more based on your veterinarians physical exam.
Vaccine Information
Core vaccines for horses are those that protect from diseases that are endemic to a region, present in the environment. All horses should be vaccinated for these diseases annually.
Tetanus
Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis (EEE)
Western Equine Encephalomyelitis (WEE)
West Nile Virus (WNV)
Rabies
Risk-based vaccines are recommended by a veterinarian after consideration of the risks and benefits for the horse based on certain factors such as the horse’s history, the group of horses they live with, the horse’s “use,” potential contact with other horses, and/or the region the horse lives in.
Equine Influenza Virus (EIV, "Flu")
Equine Herpesvirus 1 and 4 (EHV-1 & EHV-4, "Rhino")
Strangles
Potomac Horse Fever
Vaccination Recommendations
Risk based vaccinations include Flu and Rhino for horses who travel/show, or stabled at a barn with other horses who leave the property.
Potomac Horse Fever is also recommended for most horses especially those near bodies of water
